Hall of Fame

The History

The Hall of Fame and the subsequent Board(s) was initiated in 2011. The rationale was to commemorate past players who had made a notable contribution to the Club’s performance and success.

The initial phase saw a board installed on the stairs leading to the Hospitality Suites. The player’s names were decided upon then by a select Committee. The Committee, formed in October 2011, was made up of ex-players Don Rogers, John Trollope and Paul Bodin, Club historians Paul Plowman and Dick Mattick, Chairman of the STFC Supporters Club Roger Bunce and BBC Wiltshire’s Shaun Hodgetts.

The committee whittled down a list of approximately 1,300 players who have represented the club since its formation back in 1879. Rogers, Trollope and Bodin received commemorative blue and red ties on the pitch from the Club’s interim Chairman Jeremy Wray.

Eligibility

After some years of not being updated, in 2023, the Club approached the Museum to undertake this task, and Andy Cossens, Archive Trustee, took ownership.

A panel of Vic Morgan, Dick Mattick and Paul Plowman were chosen to undertake the task of choosing the names.

Players up to the present day were considered and added when chosen, again using the rationale that they had had to have completed their playing careers. It was also felt that some names had been overlooked and a Retrospective Board was created.

Legends Lounge

In 2025, it was felt that this commemoration should be in an area where more fans could view, so as part of the Legends Lounge refurbishment, the Museum Trustees commissioned a new Board, adding additional names up to the end of the 2024/25 season, with a view to updating at the end of each season. It is hoped that this Board will be installed very shortly.
