Curator’s Column May 2026

Published On: 27 May 2026

I apologise it has been a while since the last column, but we now have what I consider the biggest news since achieving Museum charitable status. The Museum now has a dedicated room to call home, enabling us to apply for accredited Museum status and display the historical club artefacts we have to Swindon fans.

Thanks to Anthony Hall and the Club, the Legends Lounge will become the Museum’s base. Matchday use of the Lounge will remain unchanged, but at regular times the room will open with Trustees and volunteers present so supporters can view artefacts and historical club displays to learn more about the club’s history. The Club has also offered secure storage facilities, for which we are extremely grateful to ensure we can lock items away when the room is not staffed.

Looking ahead, if the planned Don Rogers Stand hospitality development goes ahead, the Legends Lounge could potentially become the Museum’s permanent home.

I would also like to thank fellow Trustees Steve Mytton and James Spencer for their hard work and leadership in making this major Museum milestone possible.

Now we have a museum space, we will need volunteers to help staff it. While I will support this personally, we need additional people to provide regular cover. Even a few hours once a month would help enormously. If you would like to volunteer or discuss this in more details, please contact treasurer@stfcmuseum.org.

In terms of promoting the Club’s heritage, the montage on the Club founder is due to be presented to Well Spring Parish in June, with details to follow on the Museum website. I am also working with Sotiris at the Club to introduce historical images into the County Ground Board Room, helping celebrate Swindon Town’s proud history and achievements.

As more clubs move to new stadiums, the Nigel Eady County Ground is becoming one of football’s grand old grounds. It would be fitting to display something from the season Swindon first moved there, reminding visitors of the Club’s rich history. A football club, like a country, needs to value it’s past to secure its future. Swindon Town has a proud past and, hopefully, a bright future too.
