Swedish Exchange Students Group attend a STFC Museum CG Tour
On Monday at the request of the club, I gave a ground tour to an exchange group of teenagers from Sweden.
I was struggling to find common ground and was pleased they knew about the Gothair Cup to which Swindon send a male and female team. I was worried about the language problem but found a friend who said, “Dick they are Swedish, their English will be better than yours.” So, it proved. We had a lovely hour and a half. What lovely people and what great Ambassadors for their country.
Highlights of the tour were going to the Legends Lounge, something I have not always done on tours, however the tour leader gasped at a) its size and b) the amount of history it concerned. My story of the Moonraker was such that they asked me to tell it again for video purposes. Earlier, had been a visit to the changing rooms and finding the female players have photos to go above their seats in the dressing room. This impressed the half dozen female visitors who are players in their local elite Swedish women’s team. My poor IT skills limit me to saying that the group come from a village about 300 miles away from Stockholm and that one tall girl I suggested should apply for a trial with Swindon as she could be the Swedish Annie Colston.
Although the Club Shop was closed they are so keen to have souvenirs that they are coming back after their trip to Bath to get some. I think that the Museum Trust can now credit itself with having fulfilled its aim to spread the word of our club’s glorious history to Sweden.
If any others involved in exchange visits, please contact the Club and/or ourselves so we can let other countries know about Swindon Town F C “Salubritas et Industria.”
